Spend It In Mesa AZ – US Kenpo Jujitsu main

US Kenpo Jujitsu. Maybe you’ve been thinking of investing your time and delving into the world of martial arts. There are many dojos to choose from. However, US Kenpo Jujitsu in Mesa, Arizona, features one of the most respected systems around—Fudoshin Kenpo Jujitsu—taught by a top instructor with over 30 years of martial arts experience.

Spend It In Mesa AZ – US Kenpo Jujitsu insetSelf-Preservation Over Martial Arts. Brian Allen, US Kenpo Jujitsu owner and instructor, emphasizes the importance of self-preservation over martial arts. In most schools, one will find that the goal is to be the best Taekwondo, karate, or Brazilian Jujitsu student—they’re focused on the style. At US Kenpo Jujitsu, however, they focus on each student’s needs. For example, they’ll consider if the student faces bullying in school, what a woman has to deal with in the workplace, or what people in law enforcement face.

Because of this, US Kenpo Jujitsu created a system of teaching that focuses on real world problems and the psychology that goes along with it. It’s a practical approach that is applicable to YOU!

How It Began. Owner Brian Allen has been involved in martial arts for around thirty years, since he was fifteen. Brian got involved just because it was an extension of his junior high and high school wrestling career. Brian saw some weaknesses that martial arts could really help with so that’s how he started in martial arts.

Then, Brian got into the military, executive protection, and various aspects of law enforcement, and the psychology of everything came into play. Brian says, “I actually had the most opportunity to use psychology when I was doing part time bouncing work at bars.” Brian realized how the element of surprise, anger, or rage in an individual can negate a lot of skills that an individual can bring to the table. By learning this, one might realize that they’re not as tough as they thought they were. As Brian was watching his kids grow up, he started paying attention to more of what they were telling him about schools and bullying.

How It Works. When first enrolling in US Kenpo Jujitsu training, all students must complete an online course titled “Self Preservation | Foundations”. Upon successful completion of that course, a prospective student can then apply for enrollment. There are in-person training slots, as well as online training slots. As a student progresses, they’ll learn how managing emotional & environmental factors, and making strategic decisions are just as important as the physical techniques. There are no financial contracts, and the tuition rates are posted on the website. No sales tricks.

US Kenpo Jujitsu will also have students watch videotapes, like security video or cellphone video footage, of schoolyard bully fights. Perhaps a kid had been boxing for two years and knew how to handle himself in a match but as soon as he’s slapped in a face by a bully who has 3 friends behind him, the child freezes. While that’s a normal reaction, US Kenpo Jujitsu exposes students to the reality so that way, if anything unfortunate does ever happen, they can get over it quicker. The student won’t feel so surprised, weak, or intimidated because they’re scared—because we all get scared.

That means this is a kind of desensitization through experiencing that actual state of anger or fear and performing anyway. After they see the video, US Kenpo Jujitsu will ask the student, “Where do you think this kid in the video could have just avoided the whole thing?” Then, the kid may point out that one can avoid walking by the bully, or, if they should get bullied, not get defensive. If the kid calls them a punk, for example, they don’t have to say they’re not. Instead, they could say, “Yeah, I’m working on it,” and move on with their day. By doing so, students are able to de-escalate a situation, only fighting if they actually have to for safety.
