Personalized Attention. Some of the bigger law firms—the ones that advertise on billboards and TV—take every single case that comes along. And they’ll settle for a smaller percentage, not what is the fair value that’s owed to the client. That’s never the case at The Skiver Law Firm! Why?
The Skiver team tries to keep their caseload to a minimum. With fewer cases, they can really work intensively to make sure that they get the full value for every client. That’s just one more way The Skiver Law Firm is focused on you!
From consultation to litigation, The Skiver Law Firm team will communicate & keep you involved in the legal process—every step of the way!
Meet Ryan Skiver. A licensed attorney since 2005, Ryan Skiver was influenced to follow a career path that led to the legal field from the time he was a child. Ryan’s dad was a doctor, who later attended night school to become a lawyer. Ryan had dreams of becoming a professional basketball player when he was younger. “Unfortunately, I’m not that tall, so that didn’t work out the way I hoped,” Ryan says, laughing.
Later in college, Ryan majored in finance and did just about every kind of financial job you can think of for internships. Then when he finished, there was a downturn in the economy. Ryan’s dad suggested law school, and Ryan went that route.
Continuing Education. For Ryan, commercial truck crashes are his favorite type of case to handle. As such, he obtained his CDL license so that he can know what the defendants know. Ryan says. “So those are my favorite cases because it really tends to make the community safer when you can get these companies to realize that their hiring practices or training programs or supervision aren’t really up to snuff, and that they aren’t doing what they’re supposed to keep everybody on the road safe. Those trucks can weigh up to 80,000 pounds.” Ryan likes to handle as many of those cases as possible for the safety of the community as they have been some of the most rewarding. “I’ve also done a lot of personal injury cases, car crashes, slip and falls, and things like that,” Ryan adds. “And I still do handle some of those, but I prefer to handle the commercial trucking cases.”
Sharing Legal Knowledge. Ryan also teaches for a trial law college. Since Ryan has been fortunate to have some great mentors, including his dad, sharing his time and legal knowledge with students is one way he pays it forward. At the trial law college, Ryan actually teaches for another one of his mentors, Don Keenan. “He has over half a billion in recoveries,” Ryan explains. “And one of my students, actually, is an older guy who is now another one of my mentors. He had one of the first billion-dollar recoveries in mass torts. So we do some mass tort cases also. So that’s kind of how I got into that.”
A Family Business. Ryan’s mom is also on The Skiver Law Firm team, where she works as the marketing director. Ryan says it’s nice to have somebody else to bounce ideas off of. His mom had done some work with business networking companies during her own career, and she was retired basically. Ryan’s dad had retired from doing defense work, and Ryan asked them if they wanted to come and work with him. Ryan says, “It gives us a chance to talk and get together in addition to the regular family stuff.”
