About. Metro Krav Maga & Kickboxing’s owner and Master instructor, Tom Whitaker, has 25 years of experience in martial arts. In fact, he fought as a boxer and kickboxer from the early 1980s all the way up through 1999, during which time he won numerous local, regional, and national titles. Tom—as a martial artist–attained the rank of black belt in several systems, and he’s even a 6th degree black belt in American Karate and a 4th degree black belt in Krav Maga. Tom earned one of the highest instructor certifications in Krav Maga from the Wingate Institute in Netanya, Israel, and he is proud to serve as a coach for the USA National Kickboxing Team.
As an Olympic coach, Tom decided to use his knowledge and experience to serve his community, and Metro Krav Maga & Kickboxing began. Although Tom started the business with his wife, his kids now teach classes, too. As a local, family owned business, Tom and his team are always dedicated to helping their students thrive!

Krav Maga. So, what is Krav Maga? It’s a self-defense system developed for the Israeli military, and it emphasizes practical, instinctive movements along with quick and effective responses. By combining elements from boxing, Muay Thai, jujitsu, and other martial arts, students will learn how to address real-world situations by incorporating techniques for both defensive and offensive actions. By focusing on how to defend yourself and stay safe in real life situations, you’ll feel empowered mentally and physically!
