Meet the Owner. Lightning Motorsports owner, James Yogi, started working in his family’s motorcycle shop when he was just 11 years old. Even then, James loved it, but never had the funds to purchase his own bike. After college, James worked in corporate management for 8 years. He was finally able to purchase his own motorcycle. In fact, he started working on his own bike in order to save money and discovered that he was quite good at it. About that time, James started going to track days and racing his motorcycle, and experienced a good amount of success.
One day, he bought a lift for his garage. Once people began noticing his lift from the street, they asked James if he could work on their motorcycles as well. James advertised for his new business online, and it really took off! After a while, James was working 12 hours a day at his corporate job, plus repairing motorcycles for 4 hours each night.
So, in 2019, James decided to work full time on bikes, and he’s never looked back! James’s business is a different kind of motorcycle shop, and James views himself as a “backward business owner.” While most people start a business because they love something—and have to figure out the business aspect along the way—James already knew how to run a million-dollar corporate division. Thus, James’s business aspect of his shop was already in place from day one—he was a professional before he was a motorcycle shop owner!
Although James was just going to work on Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha, people started asking him to change the oil on their Harley Davidsons, quads, and UTVs. One thing led to another, and James is now happy to work on anything, as long he is comfortable with the machine and knows he can perform an excellent job for his customer.
