Elevate Your Health, Unleash Your Potential. Have you tried various types of treatment for pain relief, only to become frustrated with lack of results or temporary relief? Is pain or limited mobility keeping you from performing your best in the gym or on the athletic field?

Spend It In Tempe AZ – Balance Muscle Movement Therapy insetWhether you are suffering from chronic pain or looking for a way to optimize your athletic performance, Balance Muscle + Movement Therapy in Tempe, Arizona, offers the solution you have been searching for. Through the use of NeuroKinetic Therapy® (NKT), your movement will improve within minutes. As a result, pain is eliminated. It’s that simple!

Promoting a Balanced Lifestyle. Balance Muscle + Movement Therapy owner, Ray Calaguan, has always been interested in alternative medicine. Calaguan originally considered delving into Chinese medicine. But a good friend, who was a massage therapist, steered Calaguan in that direction, and he became a massage therapist in 2003.

Then 4 1/2 years ago, Calaguan discovered NKT. It revolutionized Calaguan’s massage practice. He still offers some massage, but mostly provides NKT as a Master Level Neurokinetic Therapist.

What is NKT? Founded by David Weinstock in the Bay area, NKT is based on motor control theory. All movement starts in the motor control center of the brain. By the use of manual muscle testing followed by a specific protocol of soft tissue releases and activation, an NKT practitioner is able to reprogram dysfunctional movement patterns that may have been stored in the brain for years. NKT can correct pain and movement problems that may be years or even decades old—very quickly.

The Root Cause of Pain. Muscle compensation is often the root cause of pain and restriction. When certain muscle groups are not doing their job, other muscle groups are recruited to do their job for them. Your brain automatically strategizes to keep you functional; the downside is this can eventually lead to chronic pain. By reprogramming imbalances in the motor control center, Calaguan can help you eliminate the compensating motion that causes the pain.

Manual Muscle Testing. No instruments or machines are involved. Calaguan uses very light pressure and has the patient meet or lightly resist that pressure. That lets the practitioner know if the muscle is connected or “online,” available to do that job.

A 2-Step Process. First, Calaguan identifies, without guess work, what the client’s compensation pattern is. One set of muscles is overworking to compensate for muscles that are underworking. Then by activating the underworking muscle and relaxing the overworking muscle, the pain resolves.

Next, Calaguan prescribes a 5-minute homework regimen for each patient. This is very important! The homework utilizes exercises that move these new, correct muscle motions from short term memory into long term memory. Each client is an active participant in his or her recovery. NKT is not a passive treatment. The patient is told this upfront.

Personal Philosophy. What Calaguan is doing for clients is not “fixing” them, but facilitating better health. The in-office treatment is only one aspect of what is going to help get a client better. What patients do the remainder of their time—outside of the office—like sitting at work, paying attention to how they are moving, etc., is what will make a permanent difference in how they feel from day-to-day. The third leg of the stool is the mental aspect of stress management. Calaguan offers suggestions based on the individual as to how best to improve this area.

Balance Muscle + Movement Therapy Reviews

“When I’m in pain, I no longer seek a massage. I call Ray at Balance Muscle and Movement Therapy. Ray is a skilled and thoughtful practitioner who has put my aches and pains to the test (literally with his NKT expertise) so I could say, “good-bye, pain—hello, movement again!” Ray looked at the big picture along with the details to help me with nagging neck issues and a horrible frozen shoulder with only 5% range of motion and 24-hour pain for five months. I’m back to 100% and no pain with the shoulder! The neck pain that was becoming a regular problem has been absent for over 6 months! I’m excited to start working with him to help me improve running and general activity performance! Thank you, Ray, for your caring spirit and helping us heal with your knowledge and expertise!”—Trudi W.

“Ray has played a huge role in helping UTC Aerospace decrease Workers Compensation costs and OSHA recordability cases. Ray’s work is the very best I have seen in the field. He has played a major role in assisting employees to stay productive at their job when injuries occur.”—Kirk P.

“I have known Ray for over 5 years. During the 5 years I have visited Ray with many different tweaks and injuries related to soccer, CrossFit, hours sat at a desk, or days trapped on long-haul flights. Whether I have experienced a strained muscle, a frozen shoulder, or neck issues, Ray has quickly got me back to full health. Each time I visit Ray he methodically evaluates me, asks questions, and most importantly, listens to my verbal responses and physical reactions. After a visit to Balance Therapy I have increased range of motion and less pain. He is a calming soul with a great understanding of how to remedy injuries related to sports, stress, and life!”—Andrew C.

“Balance Therapy worked to the get to the bottom of a nagging hip/low back injury. Having tried other methods, including chiropractic and traditional physical therapy, it was Ray’s patience, diligence, and fresh approach that ultimately identified the underlying issue(s), alleviated the pain, and informed me of the work I needed to put in to keep all things operational.”—Leah M.
