“It’s Your Money – Spend It In Phoenix.”
Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. Looking for a fun outdoor activity that everyone, no matter their age, can enjoy? If so, look no further than Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch in Phoenix, Arizona!
How it Began. Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch is a three-generation family business, as well as a working ostrich ranch. Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch’s owner, Danna Cogburn-Barrett, moved to Arizona in 1993 for the ostrich industry, as the ostriches like the hot, dry climate. Danna always planned to have a park where people could visit and interact with the animals, as she has a background with both entertainment and animals. Thus, it was like the “perfect union,” and the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch opened to the public in 1999, with just a folding table and a tent. They set up alongside the interstate 7 days a week, and individuals could come, buy a cup of coffee, and then go back and see the ostriches. Over the years, Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch was added to and, over time, it just built up. Additionally, all three generations of the family still work at Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch every day, even living on the ranch. The generations consist of Danna’s parents, she and her husband, and their teenage boys who are the next generation. Today, Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch has expanded and moved into a new building, as they added a little bit to their ranch at a time (and they built things themselves!).
Animals Galore! What’s more, when you visit Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, you’ll discover even more animals than ostriches. You’ll also find Miniature Sicilian Donkeys, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, Fallow Deer, Peking Ducks, “The Goat Penthouse” and the “Hole in the Wall Gang” featuring Boer Goats, and the all-time favorite Rainbow Lorikeets. Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch also has a Sting Ray petting area. As such, you’ll be able to view animals from different parts of the world—all in one place!
Family Fun. Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch is a place where families can come and have an experience together. It’s not a kiddy petting zoo, as it’s also fun for adults and people of all ages. In fact, it doesn’t matter whether you’re 2 or 102—you’ll have a fun, extremely interactive experience! In times past, kids would go to their grandma’s farm in the summer, allowing them to interact with animals. Yet, as many grandparents no longer live on farms, young people are denied the opportunity to really visit with animals. Thus, Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch is a place where people can come, touch, and interact with animals. Danna adds, “There’s compassion that comes when people are interacting with animals.” That’s what Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch is all about.
What’s more, they have a great staff that loves to treat people well. Their goal is for people to have the very best time of their life while visiting the ranch. At Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, everyone gets to turn into a six-year-old kid again! When you visit Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, you’ll get licked on, nibbled on, and receive plenty of goat kisses, providing you with a full, immersive experience.
Gift Shop, Picnic Areas, & Admission Costs. Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch also has a gift shop. There, they sell ostrich feather dusters and other things that relate to the ranch or the animals that reside there. There are a lot of fun and unique items. Moreover, they have an electronic shooting gallery that provides fun for all ages. Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch also offers picnic areas where people are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day. Plus, everything is completely wheelchair accessible.
Prices are also reasonable–$12 for people six years and older (that includes food for all the animals, minus the Sting Ray food that is just $3 extra). Kids five and under are free, and they can either share the food with paying customers or someone can purchase food for the children for $6. Most people spend about an hour at Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, though some individuals will spend three—it’s all at your own pace. There are also educational signs and such around at Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, as they do a lot of school field trips there.
