Desert Aero Club. Desert Aero Club offers flight instruction in an old-school type of atmosphere that allows for one-on-one instruction with the student. While some bigger universities have two students in the plane at the same time (one’s an observer and one’s a student pilot), Desert Aero Club will not do that, as they have one student in a plane at a time. What’s more, at university flying school you’re required to have certain things completed by a specific deadline, otherwise you can’t move on in the course. Desert Aero Club—for the ground school part—will take as much time as necessary to ensure their student gains proficiency. Desert Aero Club offers a friendly atmosphere that makes flying a joy! For older students that may have medical issues, Desert Aero Club has a 1946 Ercoupe which is classified as a light sports aircraft, so you don’t even need a medical certificate to fly it!

Meet the Owners. Desert Aero Club Flight School owner, Andy Estes, started in aviation when he was just 14 years old, working part-time washing airplanes, sweeping hangers, and doing whatever he could to get to ride in an airplane. Eventually, Andy got enough on-the-job-training to get his Airframe and Powerplant license. Later, Andy also obtained an Inspection Authorization license.
Andy says, “I got my pilot’s license in 1984. From 1984 until 1991, I worked on getting all my ratings.” Andy has been a Certified Flight Instructor for 30 years now, and he owns Desert Aero Club Flight School alongside his wife, Virginia.
