Meet the Owner: Element Cottage owner, Susan Rice, has enjoyed jewelry since her high school days, however in 2008, her mother got her even more interested in jewelry, and Susan began learning various jewelry-making techniques. In 2013, she delved deeper and learned how to forge and cast precious metals. This opened up a new world of design possibilities! Susan was also the artist in residence at The Grotto Gallery for 2018. She loved meeting and learning from other artists and sharing her knowledge with them, as well.

Today, Rice has an in-home studio. Recently, her son, Stefan, joined Element Cottage as an artisan, bringing a creative, yet meticulous skill set to the bench. Stefan makes most of the jewelry now, while Susan is concentrating on a new line of bags. From sawing, filing, and hammering to wax carving and hand casting, their collections are crafted using traditional metalsmithing techniques, including lost wax for their 3-dimensional pieces.
